MHPS Receives Order for GTCC Power Plant Equipment For NWPGCL, Power Provider in Bangladesh - Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine to be Supplied to Larsen & Toubro of India -

Yokohama, July 14, 2014 -- Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order for a set of gas turbine and steam turbine for the Bheramara gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant to be developed by North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL), a regional power provider under the Government of Bangladesh. The prime contractor is Marubeni Corporation. The set of gas turbine and steam turbine will be supplied to Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) of India, a technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing company entrusted with construction of the power plant by Marubeni Corporation on EPC basis. Shipments of the ordered equipment will be started in September 2015.

The Bheramara Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) will be constructed in Khulna District approximately 150 kilometers (km) northwest of Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital city, with support from ODA loan provided by the Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Gross output of Bheramara CCPP will be more than 410 megawatts (MW), making it one of the largest GTCC power plant in Bangladesh. When it goes into operation, it will meet approximately 5% of the country's total power demand and thus contribute to Bangladesh's economic development. MHPS will manufacture and supply an M701F4 gas turbine and a steam turbine for the project.

GTCC power plants generate electricity in two stages through the combined use of gas and steam turbines. By using high-temperature exhaust from the gas turbine to produce the steam that drives the steam turbine, combined cycle power plants achieve higher thermal efficiency, lower fuel consumption, and lower emissions.

NWPGCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) a state-operated entity executing power supply to Bangladesh's northwest region.
L&T is a high-technology driven engineering and construction organization and one of the largest companies in India's private sector.

MHPS has to date delivered five gas turbines to Bangladesh, and their excellent track records contributed to receipt of the new order. MHPS has provided numerous GTCC power plant systems both in Japan and overseas, and their technologies and proven reliability have won the trust of the broad market. Going forward, MHPS will continue to proactively propose GTCC power plant solutions to the global market that make efficient use of resources and reduce environmental burdens.

MHPS carries on the comprehensive capabilities and product businesses formerly held by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Hitachi, Ltd. The company' s strength lies in its ability to provide a full range of products and total solutions for thermal power generation systems. Going forward MHPS will actively undertake activities to attract orders by responding precisely to the diversified needs of the thermal power generation systems market, aiming to become a global leader in this field.
