Net-zero Emissions by 2040 or Sooner

Near Salt Lake City, Utah, the Intermountain Power Agency is aiming for zero CO2 emissions using 100% hydrogen firing at its 840 MW-class GTCC plant by 2045. For this project, Mitsubishi Power is providing M501JAC gas turbines and maintenance, contributing to a sustainable energy future for this beautiful region.

Mitsubishi Power delivered an advanced-class gas turbine for a combined cycle (GTCC) power plant to the Grand River Energy Center, lowering Carbon Dioxide Emissions by 50%.

Mitsubishi Power played a pivotal role in the creation of the Domo de San Pedro Geothermal Power Station, the first geothermal power station built by a private company in Mexico. We were selected as the contractor for the design, manufacturing, procurement, installation, construction, and test run of the steam turbines and other main and auxiliary equipment. We also introduced TOMONI® to monitor the performance of the steam turbines and assess the operational status of the plant.

50 miles outside of Chicago sits Jackson Generation, a combined cycle facility in Elwood, Illinois that operates Mitsubishi Power’s M501 JAC serial number 1 & 2. The unique single shaft configuration offers a smaller foot- print, and the 8,000 hour-validated gas turbines provide flexible operation with over 99.5% reliability. Since 2022, the plant has powered 1.2 million homes and counting throughout the greater Chicago area and is positioned to support the growth of intermittent renewables and the evolving grid.

Mitsubishi Power supplied two M501JAC gas turbines for the Genesee Power Station, a Canadian power generation company. The conversion to these gas turbines will bring significant benefits to Alberta's energy landscape, reducing CO2 emissions by 3.4 million tons per year, and increasing power output by as much as 70%.

T-Point 2 is the only plant of its type in the world. Mitsubishi Power takes a unique approach to develop and prove advanced gas turbine technology needed for a secure and reliable grid. To ensure the reliability and performance of advanced class gas turbines, in addition to advanced controls with intelligence, auxiliaries and supporting systems, we built our own ultramodern, grid-connected T-Point 2 facility featuring the JAC gas turbine and TOMONI intelligent solutions.

To accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen, Mitsubishi Power has developed the world’s first center for validation of hydrogen-related solutions, from production to power generation. The Takasago Hydrogen Park will commence operations in 2023 and will be used to commercialize small and large gas turbines on a path to 100% hydrogen firing starting in 2025.
